Markers of Program Effectiveness

This program of study has been designed to provide students with skills necessary to work as an Occupational Therapist in a range of possible settings. Upon completion of this course of study, students will be eligible for the national OT certification examination.

The entry-level Occupational Therapy Education Program at Duquesne University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). Address: 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220; tel: (301) 652-2682. Details regarding the accreditation process may be obtained through AOTA Web site.

One practical means of demonstrating a program's quality is the success rate of a program's graduates when they take the national certification exam in order to be registered as an occupational therapist and carry the credentials, O.T.R. This exam is offered independently through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

A felony conviction may affect a graduates ability to sit for the certification examination or attain state licensure.

Prior to graduation, the Department provides resources for the students to prepare for the certification examination. In the case where a graduate of our program does not successfully pass the exam the first time, the faculty will review score reports and provide recommendations to prepare for re-testing upon individual request by our alumni.
