Professional Narrative:
Linda Sekhon has been a board-certified Physician Assistant since 1983. She has had experience in such specialties as Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Oncology. She assisted in clinical trials in diabetes research through Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan while working in the field of Endocrinology. For the past five years her clinical practice has focused on Rheumatology and she has worked closely with Rheumatologists at the University of Pittsburgh.
Linda became involved in Physician Assistant education 1996 when she was appointed Clinical Coordinator for the Chatham College Physician Assistant Program. While at Chatham College she was trained as a PBL facilitator through the Southern Illinois University Medical School. In 1998 she joined the faculty at Seton Hill College where she was appointed Clinical Coordinator. Under the direction of Dr. Linda Allison she served as a PBL Instructor offering PBL training to the Seton Hill College PA program faculty. In 1998, in conjunction with Chatham College, she did a demonstration and instruction of Problem Based Learning at the Eastern Consortium meeting for the Academy of Physician Assistant Programs (currently known as PAEA). She returned to Chatham College in 2000 and later became the Assistant Director for the PA program.
Linda has served as a member of the Site Development Committee for the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to encourage and support student involvement in medically under served areas. She was also a facilitator and participant in the Community Preceptor Faculty Development workshops jointly sponsored by SW Penna. AHEC, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine & Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences.
Through Linda's many years of service to the profession she has developed a strong sense of professional responsibility. She has served as Vice President of the Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants, Board of Director and Membership Chair for the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants. She is currently on the House of Delegates to the American Academy of Physician Assistants. With the advent of Health Maintenance Organizations, and other “non-traditional” forms of medical practice, she recognizes the value of nurturing and preparing our students and our profession to enter the changing health care arena.
