Professional Narrative:
Keith Gorse, Instructor and Clinical Coordinator in the Department of Athletic Training, came to Duquesne University from Carnegie Mellon University where he was the Head Athletic Trainer for fifteen years. While at Carnegie Mellon, he was in charge of providing health care for over 460 student athletes participating in 17 varsity sports. While at Carnegie Mellon, Keith was an instructor in the physical education department and taught courses in CPR / First Aid and AED certification. Keith was also an adjunct clinical instructor for Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh's CAAHEP accredited Athletic Training Programs. He helped with the instruction and supervision of athletic training students from both undergraduate programs, during their off campus clinical experiences at Carnegie Mellon. Prior to his work at Carnegie Mellon, Keith was the Head Athletic Trainer for three years at Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Keith graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, with his Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education in 1988. He also received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, in Athletic Training and Science Education in 1983. Keith gained experience as a student athletic trainer with every varsity sport at the University of Pittsburgh which included the opportunity to be a part of four different bowl games with the football team. They included the Tangerine Bowl - 1978, Fiesta Bowl - 1979, Gator Bowl - 1980 and the Sugar Bowl - 1982.
Keith has three published articles in the NATA Journal and has presented material at the local and national athletic training meetings. He has worked with a variety of organizations to help promote athletic training as a viable health care field. Keith is currently on the NATA - College and University Committee. He is the District II Representative to this committee which also involves being on a task force that is investigating issues in athletic training reimbursement. Keith is also working with the Pittsburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau in bringing the NATA Annual Meeting to the Three Rivers for the year 2010.
Keith currently lives in Shaler with his wife Betsy, 7 year old daughter Erin and almost 4 year old son Tyler.
