Associate Professor
Department of Physical Therapy

Education:

Ph.D., Kinesiology, emphasis in Sports Medicine, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA;

M.S., Post-Professional Physical Therapy, emphasis in Orthopaedic/Sport P.T., Institute of Health Professions @ Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA;

B.S., Physical Therapy, Arcadia University, Glenside, PA;

Courses Taught:

Orthopedics I- Concepts of Orthopedic Physical Therapy;
Orthopedics II- Evaluation & Treatment of the Upper Extremity;
Functional Biomechanics & Kinesiology;
Orthopedics III- Evaluation & Treatment of the Lower Extremity- LabAssistant;
Therapeutic Modalities- Lab Assistant;

Areas of Academic Specialty:
Orthopedics/Sports Medicine

Research Area:
To identify a means by which the frequency of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament injuries in females may be reduced. I am currently investigating the effect of different types of foot orthoses on lower extremity kinematics, kinetics and muscle activity during deceleration activities in female athletes.

Professional Narrative:
I received my BS in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 1989, MS in Orthopedic/Sport physical therapy from the Institute of Health Professions at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1999 and a PhD in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in 2002. Prior to obtaining my doctorate, I was the Director of Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Associates (PTSMA) in Bristol, CT. I am a Sports Certified Specialist (S.C.S.) as recognized by the American
Board of Physical Therapy Specialities (ABPTS) and continue to practice regularly in an orthopaedics/sports medicine outpatient clinic. I strongly believe that my continued clinical practice has enhanced not only my ability to be an effective educator but also scholar.
