Admission Requirements

Admission in to the Athletic Training program at the freshman level will require a minimum high school QPA of 2.75 (including 4 units in English; 1 unit in social studies or language; 7 units in mathematics and science; and four elective units), a composite SAT score of at least 1,100 or a composite ACT of at least 24, evidence of extracurricular activities during high school and have the ability to meet all of the medical and performance/technical standards of the program. It is required that students acquire a minimum of 100 hours of clinical experience and observation in athletic training prior to admittance into the professional phase of the program. This requirement will be fulfilled during the sophomore year. Students who meet all academic and program requirements during the pre-professional phase will be guaranteed admission into the professional phase.

Students may transfer into the program before the start of the sophomore year, based upon their credentials, courses completed at other institution(s), outcomes in courses yet to be completed prior to entry into the professional phase, and space availability. Admission at the transfer or second degree level will require a minimum cumulative Q.P.A. of at least a 2.75. Observation of a Certified Athletic Trainer prior to admission is strongly encouraged.

To assure the health and safety of the Athletic Training students and the patients/athletes with whom they work, all students (freshman and transfer) are required to meet the Technical Standards/Performance Indicators to ensure that they have sufficient abilities to meet the rigorous work expectations of a student studying Athletic Training. To further protect the health and well-being, all students are required to have a complete physical exam before beginning the first professional Athletic Training course during the sophomore year (ATHTR 201). The requirements for this physical exam are explained during pre-professional student body meetings and are available to students in the RSHS Academic Student Handbook which all students receive, as well as on this RSHS web site.
